| The Angelini Group’s Italian production plants are located in Ancona, Pescara and the province of Genoa. The Ancona plant specialises in pharmaceuticals manufacturing, while the Genoa facility at Casella manufactures disinfectants and sanitising products under the Amuchina brand name. The Company’s parapharmaceuticals are sold in all international markets. The Fater plant in Pescara manufactures babies’ nappies and women’s sanitary towels. The plant works in synergy with and uses the machinery built by Fameccanica, a plant based in the province of Chieti, which designs and builds the machinery for the baby diaper and sanitary towel industry. All the production plants use the most advanced technology, with automatic monitoring and control systems. Throughout the process a special importance is laid on quality control and analysis, starting with the fine chemicals and other materials used. Health and environmental protection are prime concerns in all Angelini’s production procedures. The Ancona Plant The Ancona plant is Angelini’s only facility for the manufacture of pharmaceuticals. It has a total surface area of nearly 180,000 square metres and employs over 400 people. The plant has divisions for the manufacture of solid oral pharmaceuticals (tablets, dragees, sachets), solid oral effervescent pharmaceuticals (tablets and sachets), sterile liquids (vials and eye drops), non-sterile liquids (bottles, drops, syrups, mouthwashes, ready-to-use vaginal douches, nebulisers, micro-enemas), and semi-solid pharmaceuticals (suppositories and ointments). Total production amounts to around 80 million packages per year. Production speed depends on formulation: on average, about 280,000 units of the various pharmaceutical forms are manufactured each day. Production is organised in Elementary Process Units (EPUs), each of which covers the entire production cycle of a certain formulation: preparation, packaging, maintenance and quality control. The Ancona plant has obtained cGMP certificationfor the manufacture of medicinal products for human use, issued on a two-yearly basis by the Ministry of Health after inspections are carried out. The plant has also obtained ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certification for the manufacture of Medical Devices, while its single-dose eye drops have obtained FDA approval. Finally, the plant has also obtained ISO 14001 environmental certification. The Ancona storage facility holds all finished products ready for sale, whether manufactured in-house or bought from external suppliers. Orders received from customers are despatched from the central warehouse: about 15,000 pharmacies, wholesalers, hospitals and health or sanitary facilities accounting for around 180,000 deliveries per year, the equivalent of about 300,000 quintals of goods. Materials management procedures are controlled by IT and radio-frequency systems that enable high precision in the organisation of shipments, with delivery times being monitored for each individual order. A Customer Service department is available to the clientele and agents to solve any problems arising with orders. The Casella Plant Angelini’s Casella plant, in the province of Genoa, manufactures Amuchina, the well-known disinfectant. The production shop, which extends over 14,000 square metres, employs over 30 people. The plant produces 6 million litres of Amuchina a year, which equates to about 8.5 million units in various formats. Quality assurance is a key priority at Casella, which works with the same standards as the Ancona plant. Casella too has obtained cGPM certification from the Ministry of Health, as well as FDA approval for sales in the US market. The plant is also ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified for the manufacture of medical devices. The warehouse is essentially a transit zone used to store the finished product until it is transferred to the Ancona storage facility for distribution. The Abruzzo Plants The Fater plant in Pescara manufactures babies’ nappies, women’s sanitary towels, cleansing wipes and incontinence products. The plant currently extends to 165,000 square metres and has a workforce of 700 employees. Fater’s production system is geared to identify and correct any faults as they arise, through strict selection of raw materials and subsequent checks throughout the entire production cycle. The final quality of the products is ensured by even stricter procedures than those required by either Italian or EU law, to provide the greatest possible protection of the health and interests of consumers. As proof of this, Fater’s quality system is ISO 9002 certified. With its focus on innovation, Fater is able to adapt its production processes to the needs of the market and identify future market trends. To maintain this capacity, Fater keeps a constant focus on improving and developing its manufacturing machinery and technologies. The Fameccanica plant at Sambuceto di S. Giovanni Teatino (CH), where the machinery for the baby diaper and sanitary towel industry is designed and built, works constantly on developing its technological processes and is a further element in the “virtuous quality circle”. Environment, Health and Safety Angelini’s production plants are ahead of the field in environmental protection. The management of individual environmental issues and policies for their improvement have played a key role in the Company’s production process, to the extent that both the Ancona and the Pescara plants have obtained voluntary ISO 14001 certification. Occupational health and safety are key requirements in each activity carried out in Angelini’s production plants. The Angelini Group has created a corporate culture in which an employer’s first and absolute duty is to guarantee the health, safety and wellbeing of all workers. In this respect, health and safety rules of conduct have been drawn up at both corporate and divisional level, along with a system for monitoring both conduct and standards that helps focus attention on safety issues and increase employees’ awareness of accident prevention issues. Accurate risk assessment and compliance with all the laws and regulations governing the environmental and occupational health and safety, together with the full involvement of the entire workforce, are key factors in achieving excellence in every sphere. |
